Comprehensive Plan UpdateClick me

Future Land UseDraft changes have been proposed to the Alachua County Comprehensive Plan based on the recommendations in the Evaluation and Appraisal Report adopted by the BOCC in August 2009. These changes will address topics such as energy, community health, land use and transportation, agriculture and local food systems, protection of water and other natural resources, and economic development. The proposed changes will be adopted as amendments to the Comprehensive Plan by April 2011.

The Mobility PlanClick me

Bus The Mobility Plan creates more mobility options for residents who do not own cars or prefer not to drive, which reduces energy use, personal transportation costs, and dependence on foreign oil. It provides for compact mixed uses areas to be accessible by walking and biking, in combination with a plan for bus rapid transit, express transit and park and ride opportunities.

Transfer of Development Rights (TDR)Click me

The TDR Program was established as a tool to protect the County’s environmental resources and promote viable agriculture while encouraging efficient use of services and infrastructure within the Urban Cluster.

Neighborhood Stabilization GrantClick me

A $2.9 million agreement was executed in November 2009 to purchase foreclosed or short sale homes, make home repairs and energy efficiency improvements, and then sell or rent them to income-qualified households. To date, $1.8 million has been expended to purchase 20 homes; and $737,000 in housing rehab contracts were executed. This program provides relief to distressed neighborhoods with high foreclosure rates; is an economic stimulus to the housing industry (including realtors, contractors, appraisers, surveyors, title insurance companies, and building material suppliers); and gives affordable homeownership and rental housing opportunities to very low-income to moderate income households in Alachua County.

Scenic RoadsClick me

Bus

Created a new scenic road application and process.

Plan East GainesvilleClick me

Bus Plan East Gainesville is the product of a community effort to provide a vision for a comprehensive economic revitalization plan that achieves a balance of environmental preservation with sustainable land development and improved transportation mobility.

Code Enforcement Officer ZonesClick me

These zones were created to increase the productivity of the County’s Code Enforcement Officers by matching each officer with the zone they are most familiar with, giving them the ability to better identify and pinpoint problems within those zones. The zones also allow for more efficient use of County vehicles.

Post Disaster Redevelopment Plan (PDRP)Click me

Bus The PDRP was adopted by the County Commission in April, 2010. The Plan establishes a proactive strategy to coordinate amongst County departments, municipalities, businesses, non-governmental and regional organizations to respond to catastrophic disasters and redevelop in an effective manner.  Alachua County is one of the first inland counties in the State to develop a PDRP.  Under the overall coordination of the Emergency Management Department, the Growth Management Department helped develop the draft PDRP and served on the executive committee and chaired three of the six sub-committees for Land Use, Housing and Structural Repairs, and Environmental and Historic Property Restoration.

Eastside Activity CenterClick me

Staff created development standards to enhance the quality of life and economic development opportunities in this activity center located around SE 43rd Street and Hawthorne Road. The standards were adopted by the County Commission in 2010.

CDBG Housing Rehabilitation ProgramClick me

$1.1 million in construction contracts awarded to replace 9 substandard homes and repair 4 substandard homes of very low-income and low income households in Alachua County. This program improves the health, safety, and welfare of low income households living in substandard housing, and provides economic benefits to contractors & their suppliers.
