Comprehensive Plan Update

Future Land UseDraft changes have been proposed to the Alachua County Comprehensive Plan based on the recommendations in the Evaluation and Appraisal Report adopted by the BOCC in August 2009. These changes will address topics such as energy, community health, land use and transportation, agriculture and local food systems, protection of water and other natural resources, and economic development. The proposed changes will be adopted as amendments to the Comprehensive Plan by April 2011.

Plan East Gainesville

Bus Plan East Gainesville is the product of a community effort to provide a vision for a comprehensive economic revitalization plan that achieves a balance of environmental preservation with sustainable land development and improved transportation mobility.

Scenic Roads

Bus Created a new scenic road application and process and recommended the designation of CR-225 as a scenic road to the County Commission.

Transfer of Development Rights (TDR)

The TDR Program was established as a tool to protect the County’s environmental resources and promote viable agriculture while encouraging efficient use of services and infrastructure within the Urban Cluster.

Community Disaster Recovery Grant

Applied for this $475,822 grant to be used to help alleviate flooding, weatherize and repair roofs on public housing units, and other roof and housing repairs for low to moderate income residents.

Neighborhood Stabilization Grant

Applied for a $2.9 million grant to be used to acquire and rehab foreclosed properties and then sell or rent the properties.

The Mobility Plan

Bus The Mobility Plan creates more mobility options for residents who do not own cars or prefer not to drive, which reduces energy use, personal transportation costs, and dependence on foreign oil. It provides for compact mixed uses areas to be accessible by walking and biking, in combination with a plan for bus rapid transit, express transit and park and ride opportunities.

Post Disaster Redevelopment Plan (PDRP)

Bus The PDRP establishes a proactive strategy by coordinating the County departments, municipalities, businesses, non-governmental and regional organizations to respond to catastrophic disasters and redevelop in an effective manner. Alachua County is one of the first inland counties in the State to develop a PDRP.

Eastside Activity Center

Implemented new zoning districts and standards for this mixed use Activity Center.

SHIP Homebuyer Opportunity Program

Awarded a $191,963 grant to provide home repair and down payment assistance to residents.

Housing Rehabilitation Grant

Awarded a $750,000 grant to repair or replace homes of very low to low income homeowners residing in unincorporated Alachua County.

Priority Water Resource Caution Area

Studied the potential impact of the Water Management Districts’ Water Supply Planning process to the County. This process could trigger requirements for amendments to the Comprehensive Plan that would incorporate water supply planning strategies and projects, including conservation and reuse projects, identified in a WMD Regional Water Supply Plan.
