Comprehensive Planning Division

The Comprehensive Planning Division is responsible for coordinating the update and maintenance of the County's Comprehensive Plan utilizing the resources of a multidepartmental Comprehensive Plan Update Team. The Comprehensive Planning process emphasizes extensive public participation by employing various techniques including meetings with individuals and groups, facilitating workshops and conducting formal public hearings. Outreach to the public is accomplished through mail-outs, Internet and advertising.

The staff prepares data and analysis pertaining to land use for use by the public and other agencies. The division is involved in intergovernmental coordination related to joint planning with municipalities, comprehensive planning and annexation.

2001-2020 Comprehensive Plan in Effect
On May 2, 2005, the Florida Department of Community Affairs issued a final order finding the 2001-2020 Alachua County Comprehensive Plan, based on amendments adopted on April 8, 2002 and August 26, 2003, to be in compliance with Florida's Local Government Comprehensive Planning and Land Development Regulation Act. With this final order the new Comprehensive Plan went into effect and all new development approved by the County must be consistent with the Plan as amended. Land Development Regulations (LDR)
On December 8th, 2005, Alachua County Government adopted its new Land Development Regulations (LDR).
